Nikki Ryan

Sports Massage Therapist

Nikki graduated from Leeds University with a BSc degree in Sport and Exercise with Psychology. Following this she attained her Level 3 Personal Training qualification and after a couple of years working with clients, went on to attain her Level 4 qualification in Sports & Remedial Massage. She has spent many recent years providing sports massage and personal training to the people of Buckingham and surrounding areas and also continues to develop her skills to help provide the best possible treatments for her clients. Nikki also has a background in fitness management & outdoor education and is very passionate about helping people to become more healthy, active and pain free.

I grew up helping my disabled Dad with day-to-day tasks. This meant from a young age, I was well practiced in helping people, which I really enjoy, and I knew I wanted to my chosen career to allow me to do this for other people.

After I attained my Personal Training qualification, I found a lot of my clients were struggling with their mobility or recovery from previous injuries. I recalled suffering with severe knee pain in my early 20’s, where Sports Massage was pivotal in helping me recover from this. I decided that Sports Massage would provide me with an additional skillset and tool to help my current and future clients recover from injuries and enjoy life without being hindered by pain or impaired mobility.

Being able to  assist my clients with relief from pain, improved mobility and enhancing their quality of life is an incredibly feeling. Each patient is different and reacts different to treatment; what will work for one person, may not work for another, so talking to patients and getting to know how they’re feeling during and after treatment as well as being able to adapt each treatment to suit each individual is something I really enjoy, and what motivates me to continue to develop my skills as a professional.

Nikki is trained in a range of advanced massage techniques that help to focus on treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, common sports injuries and everyday aches and pains. Her training also involves musculoskeletal examination and assessment as well as Dynamic or Sliding Cupping which can be a great tool to relax those muscles.

Nikki has a special interest in working with people to aid injury recovery. She utilises her soft tissue skills to help restore muscle function and uses exercise rehabilitation programmes to enhance and maintain her treatment results . With Nikki’s background as a Personal Trainer, she enjoys helping her clients to improve their strength and mobility to help prevent future injuries. Her background enables her to adapt post treatment rehabilitation plans to suit the needs of each individual patient with the focus on performing each exercise correctly.

Nikki continues to develop her skills and broaden her knowledge by attending regular Continued Professional Development (CPD) programmes, to ensure she has the best possible approach to help each and every patient.

I’ve always enjoyed playing sport from a young age, especially football. I enjoy regular visits to the gym as well as indoor and outdoor climbing and bouldering. I enjoy going up to the Peak District and exploring all the climbing and bouldering it has on offer! I absolutely love outdoor climbing and the adrenaline (and frustration) it fills me with!  I will also take any opportunity I can get to head down to the beach and have a splash about in the sea.

Nikki has a twin sister and is the youngest by 17minutes! (No, they’re not identical). Nikki grew up in a small village just outside of Wigan in Lancashire and moved to Buckingham in 2016.
